Likwid & Friends are set to perform a distinctive musical concert as part of the Spring of Culture this weekend

Manama, Bahrain Economic Development Board 13 March 2018: One of Bahrain’s biggest bands is set to perform this coming weekend as part of the 13th edition of the annual Spring of Culture. Likwid will headline the festival’s mainstage at Bahrain Bay on 17th March at 8:30 pm. The performance will feature other Bahraini artists who have made a name for themselves as their special guests, making “Likwid & Friends” a special evening not to be missed.

A unique and popular alternative/pop-rock bands in Bahrain’s music scene, the band earned a reputation of supreme musicianship on stage and selling-out the hottest local venues.

On a regional level, Likwid shared the main stage with Bahraini singer songwriter Ala Ghawas and Saxophonist Abdulla Haji at the 8th edition of the Cairo Jazz Festival in October 2016, and recently took part at Saudi Arabia’s first edition of “Groovz Jazz Festival” in Riyadh.

Likwid was formed when bassist and vocalist Ahmed AlQasim, Guitarist Ahmed Abdulaziz, and drummer Abdulrahman Malallah met pianist Khalid Al Shamlan in 2004 and formed Latin jazz band, La Movida, which went on to perform for 10 years before rebranding to a modern alternative band as Likwid in 2014.

It is very rare to see the influences of Bob Marley, The Police, Santana, Pink Floyd, and Steely Dan sparking out of one band. That’s what Likwid is all about: a captivating & entertaining band that doesn’t believe in genres, just good music. The band released their debut album in 2016.

This event is organized by Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB). Entry to this event is free of charge.

Thirteen years after its inauguration, the Spring of Culture festival has transformed into a landmark in Bahrain’s calendar of events. The festival contributes significantly to Bahrain’s tourism sector each year which is a key priority sector for the EDB as part of its diversification strategy. The number of inbound tourists to Bahrain has been increasing year on year, with the total number of visitors reaching 12.7 million last year as compared to 12.2 million in 2016.

Apart from being a festival that builds cultural communication bridges between Bahrain and the rest of the world, Spring of Culture also supports SME’s in the Kingdom whose products and services are enjoyed by and promoted to a new and wider audience during the pre-shows.
