Bahrain Makes History with First Female Fighter Pilot

FinanceFinTech

A piece of Bahraini history was made last week, as the Kingdom’s first ever female fighter pilot made her inaugural flight at Sheikh Isa Air Base.

Sheikha Aisha bint Rashid Al Khalifa, a graduate of Britain’s Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, flew a BAE Hawk in a solo demonstration that was watched by her grandfather, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman. She holds the rank of pilot officer in the Royal Bahraini Air Force.

Bahrain has a long track record of female firsts. In 1928 it was the first Gulf state to allow women into education, and later became the first to allow the full participation of women in politics.

The Kingdom has since been named the top country globally for closing its gender gap in education, the top country in MENA for female economic participation, and top of the GCC for gender wage equality and female income.

Sheikha Aisha’s achievement adds a new chapter to that proud history. Reach for the skies!  #leadership #genderequality #history #Bahrain #womeninmilitary #femalefirst #empowerment
