Bahrain EDB to host ‘Business in Formula 1’

April 02, 2014

Manama: Following the success of the inaugural ‘Business in Formula 1’ event  at the 2013 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, the unique initiative, jointly organised by the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) and Formula One, returns to this year’s Grand Prix,  promising an interesting line up of speakers and activities.

The event brings together leaders from the worlds of business and sport, and focuses on the importance of identifying new ways to utilise major international events such as Formula 1 to strengthen ties with the local and international business community.
“We are proud to co-host the Business in Formula 1 event again this year,” commented H.E. Kamal bin Ahmed, Minister of Transportation and Acting Chief Executive of the EDB. “The event, which is the first of its kind on the Formula One circuit, serves as a platform for local, regional and international guests to network during the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. It not only helps showcase the opportunities in Bahrain for businesses looking to access the $1.5 trillion GCC market, but also sheds light on the business perspective of the popular motorsport. It is truly unique and the positive format means that we anticipate seeing the model of ‘Business in Formula 1’ applied in other markets soon.”
Bernie Ecclestone, Formula One Management CEO, said “Bahrain clearly recognises the importance attached to its place on the FIA Formula One World Championship calendar, and the association this brings with powerful global economies and industrial nations. Bahrain’s enthusiasm to find new ways of underlining the values that the sport provides to business has been at the forefront of their innovation in the last decade.”
Hosted at the Formula 1 Paddock Club during 4, 5 and 6 April, the event will feature a series of presentations from a variety of high-profile speakers as well as access to pit lane walks, and spectacular views of the race from the Paddock Club.
The event’s schedule includes a number of high-profile speakers including H.E. Kamal bin Ahmed, Minister of Transportation and Acting Chief Executive of the EDB; Claire Williams, Deputy Team Principle, Williams Grand Prix; Alaa Al Shaikh, Managing Director of VMotion and Mike Flewitt, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Automative. The speakers will cover a range of topics over the span of the three-day event, such as the business of Formula 1 and Bahrain’s growing influence in the automotive and engineering sectors.
